In der Ferne zeichnen sich die Umrisse der Nordostspitze Siziliens ab, in der glei\u00dfenden Mittagssonne erkennt man die Ziegeld\u00e4cher und den Leuchtturm von Torre Faro. Von hier oben, jenem m\u00e4chtigen Felsen, der von der kalabrischen Gemeinde Scilla aus wie ein wellenbrechender Bug ins Meer ragt, bietet sich ein exzellenter Blick \u00fcber die Meerenge von Messina. Kein Wunder, dass hier schon im fr\u00fchesten Mittelalter an strategischen Festungen gebaut wurde, die diesen taktischen Vorteil zu nutzen suchten. Und dass schon lange davor ein Mythos entstand, nachdem bereits der Held Odysseus von diesem Ort gerade noch mal so davonkam. Eher brachial und ein bisschen abweisend: schweres Gestein auf schroffem Fels halt. \u00dcber enge, steile, versteckte Treppen gelangt man vom Strand aus hinauf. Schlappe 2 Euro (Juni 2018) kostet der Eintritt, den eine die Besucher aufmerksam musternde kalabrische Familie kassiert (sobald man bezahlt hat, widmet man sich allerdings wieder mit Verve dem Austausch dringender und weniger dringender kalabrischer Familienangelegeheiten).\u00a0 Durch das Kastell l\u00e4uft man weitgehend allein, ab und zu begegnen einem andere Touristen. Viel zu sehen gibt es nicht: eine alte Karre lehnt an einer Wand, die ein oder andere verwitterte Inschrift gedenkt dem ein oder anderen Ereignis oder Kastellbesitzer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul
