Wonderful, worldfamous, and more than worth a visit: Nymphenburg Palace is one of Munich’s greatest higlights. It ranges among Europe’s great royal castles and – with a wing-span of 632 meters – surpasses even Versailles Palace.<\/p>\n

Castles Made of Joy<\/h2>\n

In the year 1663 Adelheid von Savoyen, wife of the Bavarian Elector Ferdinand Maria, gave birth to Prince Royal Max Emanuel. Ferdinand was so happy about this heir to his throne that he gave his wife the area Hofmark Menzing. Here, the pleasure palace in the style of Italian manors was built, which Adelheid would call “Nymphenburg”. Her son later expanded it, turning it into a baroque castle and summer residence.<\/p>\n

Sublime, pompous, decadent: The great Stone Hall – the Nymphenburg’s party chamber – really enthralls its visitors.<\/p>\n

Instagram two centuries ago: 38 portraits of Munich women – both aristocratic and middle-class – painted by Joseph Karl Stieler from 1827 – 1850 for King Ludwig.<\/p>\n

Among them were the dancer Lola Montez, the king’s concubine. And this tragic beauty, who died shortly after.<\/p>\n
